Museum by Moonlight and The 1925 Society

Through our work we get meet and work with so many people doing pretty incredible things across our city. It is—hands down—the best part of the job. Of course it’s also a huge mission focus for us too, and as part we keep a growing list of Indianapolis young professional organizations on our site.

I recently met up with Lindsay Gramlich over a community table at Tomlinson Tap Room to chat about The 1925 Society, and Museum by Moonlight – The Children’s Museum’s new after-hours, adults-only event.

Karissa: Alright Lindsay, I know the Museum’s After Dark series last summer and fall were a hit. Tell me what’s new now?

Lindsay: Last year, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis launched a new group exclusively for young professionals—The 1925 Society. We’re the world’s biggest and best Children’s Museum and this new society gives adults an opportunity to enjoy it in a new way (read: without the Children’s Museum’s usual crowd). We created it to provide us an opportunity to engage with young professionals who might not otherwise have a reason to visit the museum.

So what are Society members doing that I can’t do by simply purchasing an admission ticket and wandering the galleries on my own?

So, we’ve developed an exclusive event series for Society members to get behind-the-scenes access to the museum and museum leaders.  Next month, on March 31, we’re going to host one of these events alongside the current exhibit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™. The event will focus on team work and we’ll snack on pizza (of course!).

How do people join?

Society dues are $50 per year, and proceeds benefit The Children’s Museum Fund, which allows all children and families, regardless of income, to visit the museum. That’s a pretty cool part of our mission. There’s a bunch of other benefits too, like discounts on admission and special events—like Museum by Moonlight and the After Dark series—professional development opportunities and that exclusive behind-the-scenes museum access I talked about. Anyone interested can find more online or get in touch with my colleague Helena at helenar(at)childrensmuseum.org.

That’s all very cool Lindsay, now I also hear that you’ve been working on a new event for this year too?

YMBM-Logo-400es! Museum by Moonlight
is happening February 27, and we’re giving big kids 21+ full access to the museum. You can explore all five floors, including Dinosphere, Treasures of the Earth, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all while enjoying food from local restaurants, drinks, and live music from local bands.  Tickets are now on sale and proceeds also benefit The Children’s Museum Fund.
