Ashley’s Holiday Countdown | Taste After Dark

As we gear up for the holiday season, I thought it might be helpful to lead us all in a unique countdown. Join me over the next several weeks as I highlight 7 can’t miss experiences in Indy that are sure to put you in the holiday– err, community spirit.

Our first event in this blog series comes to you from the hardworking folks at the Ronald McDonald House and their young professional board, we are highlighting the Taste After Dark event. Seriously, look no further than to start your holiday cheer this Friday (yes, this Friday, Nov. 3) at 9 p.m. at the Biltwell Center.

Read on for more event information and a surprise treat in my interview with the Ronald MCDonald House Young Professional Board president, Alex Miser (we may or may not be related).

Q: You’re actively involved in our city in many different ways, but tell me how long you’ve been involved with the Ronald McDonald House?

Alex: I started volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in 2012 – actually after finding them at IndyVolved when it was hosted in the City Market and soon joined the yp board. I’ve been committed to their mission for five years now.

Q: I know how much you love to attend fun events, so tell me, when did you attend your first Taste After Dark event?

Alex: Surprisingly, this is the only second year for Taste After Dark, so this is my second one.

Q: What about this event stands out to you?

Alex: This year is really unique. We’re celebrating wines of the North West, which is not your typical wine region to feature. I’d highly recommend pre-gaming with some Nirvana and Pearl Jam before heading to the event!

Q: And I’ll ask the question that no one ever asks but is always on their mind: what do I wear?

Alex: It’s cocktail attire. For the guys, think suit jackets, no tie. Dresses or chic jumpsuits for the ladies.

Q: Would you bring your friends?

Alex: Of course, because when else can you dress up, hang out, and support an important cause that’s mission is to be the “home-away-from-home” for families of children receiving medical care at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and other area hospitals? The answer is no where else.

Q: Is there a perk to buy a ticket in advance instead of event night? And can you buy a ticket night of?

Alex: I’m so glad you asked! There is a perk, if you visit the event link and use the promo code: DARK you’ll receive $5 off your ticket. You can also purchase tickets night of at the door, if you happen to find yourself without plans! All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Central Indiana.

Q: How else can someone get involved with Ronald McDonald House Young Professionals Board outside of this event?

Alex: We have so many opportunities to connect. Eight times a year, we serve dinner to the families staying at the house and we also volunteer at the house and for their causes. If you’re interested in more information, sign up at ypbindy.com.
