It’s Better Up Here – Rooftop Thursdays

AmberClarke_HeadshotWhoa.

That’s the first word that popped into my mind when I stepped onto the Regions Tower 5th floor rooftop terrace this July. You know that old saying, “Cream rises to the top”? Well, never is that more in evidence than at Indianapolis’ best kept secret hot spot.

Imagine a sea of humanity. Young, old, professional, entrepreneurs, stay-at-home moms and dads. White, Black, Latino, Asian, and everyone in-between. All are represented on the Regions Tower. And I was almost overwhelmed by the easy way in which everyone was meshing and getting along. Seldom do we see such a mix in our beloved city.

I suppose I’m so used to seeing a lack of diversity that I’m always a little startled when I see it happening so effortlessly. (The fact that I’m startled by the presence of diversity is surely a topic for another day.) I was absolutely thrilled to see people flowing easily between different groups and social circles.

There’s truly a sense of community present on the Rooftop. It’s almost as though being elevated above ground level somehow elevates the attendees to a state of being above the normal “you can’t sit with us” mentality that we normally see in social settings.

Every Thursday evening starting in late June, Indy’s young professionals commandeer the 5th floor rooftop terrace of the Regions Bank tower and have a gloriously good time.

In a time and space where it’s so easy to get caught up in the violence which appears to plague our city, this weekly gathering offers a well-needed break from the work week and the often grim realities of the outside world. Imagine a Chicago day-party filled with interesting people, good drinks, great music, and fantastic energy. Now, transfer that to the
200 block of N. Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Indy and you’ll have Rooftop Thursdays.

RoofTop6
As an Indy native, I’ve been around the block a time or two, but this event is a unique and welcome addition to the Hoosier social scene. And did I neglect to mention admission to this weekly event is free?  Thanks to its hosts: 317 Events LLC, Image First LLC, and Oasis Events.

This collaboration is exactly what Indy has been looking for. The rooftop space has ample seating, with private cabanas and VIP areas available for reservation. There are always at least two bars open, and if you’re like me and NEVER have cash on hand, fear not, they have Square. Often, there are drink sponsors on hand offering free samples of the newest adult beverages for you to try.

RoofTop7 So if you’re looking for a great place to relax after work on Thursdays, the Regions Tower is the place to be. Dress up, dress down, wear whatever’s comfortable; there’s a little bit of everything here.

The important thing is to be your authentic self and come.

Whether you make it a weekly stop or just drop by every now and then, you won’t regret your visit. Put this on your list of must-do’s for the summer.

Meet me there. I’ll be the one in the fabulous shoes.
