Cummins’ new building is stunning

FullSizeRender (2)Cummins unveiled their new nine-story, $30 million building in downtown Indy to the public earlier this month. At the formal ribbon-cutting, Mayor Joe Hogsett and Governor-Elect Eric Holcomb both remarked that this is more than a building – it’s a recruitment tool for Indy and will revitalize the East Market Street corridor.

The more than four acres of greenspace and the sleek, modern design have brought new life to what used to be an underutilized area of downtown. The building will serve as the new headquarters for Cummins’ global distribution business and will house 90 people who currently work at other Indy locations and another 160 who currently work in Columbus, Indiana. The space is large enough for 450 employees, so there is plenty of space to grow into in the coming years.

FullSizeRender (3)Cummins has always been known for their contemporary buildings due to Columbus, Indiana’s unique architectural legacy. Renowned architect and Dean of Yale University’s School of Architecture, Deborah Berke, was tasked with designing the Indy headquarters and local architecture firm Ratio helped implement the final design.

Over 60 pieces of art are featured throughout the nine floors and each workspace provides a view of downtown. Berke wanted employees to be exposed to the maximum amount of sunlight possible, so windows were an integral part of the design.
