Exploring Indy in the summer

Greetings, Indy! These last few weeks have been bright and warm – let’s get out and engage with nature! There are so many scenic areas here in town. I’m going to share some interesting attractions and events coming up this summer/early fall.

Indy’s next major outdoor event is the Indiana State Fair beginning August 4th this year. The Fair has plenty to offer such as tasty treats, fascinating rides, exhibits, competition, entertainment, and much more! Be sure to check out their website for tickets and other specials. Following the Fair, early September, there is the “French Market Festival” (St. Joan of Arc). There, you can grab some French food along with a few festive souvenirs.

If you are a fan of music/local entertainment, be sure to check out both “Toy Factory” and “Living Proof” two awesome, diverse live bands that frequent restaurants such as Daddy Jacks, Regions Tower Rooftop, Lakehouse @ Geist, and many other locations. This way you can dance while you dine!

To get your dose of arts and culture, be sure to visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art. They currently have some intriguing attractions including the Indy Film Fest (ends this week!), Garden tours, Historic tours, and more! The IMA also offers a Summer Camp After Care for the kiddos. Be sure to snap a selfie in front of the “Love” sculpture.  Free general admission is offered the first Thursday of each month from 4pm-9pm at the IMA.

Speaking of free/discounted admission, on the first Thursday of the month, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has $5.00 admission (4-8pm) and free parking daily.  Such incredible exhibits relating to art, culture, dinosaurs, science, space, and plenty more! Perfect for the kid at heart.

Looking to visit a local Faith-based Community? Check out “Engage Church” (multi-ethnic, multicultural, outreach based) a new community of faith under United Methodist Church in Pike Township-under such amazing leadership! Engage will be attending the Faith and Family Night-Fever game at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse on Friday July 28 at 7pm. View their Facebook page for future events!

Interested in bicycling, paddle boats, kayaking, and other water activities? The Canal downtown is the perfect spot. Grab your sunscreen and hit the water. You can even take a gondolier ride with authentic Italian singers!

Looking for a place to take a stroll and enjoy the city views? Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave) is another popular day/evening spot with dining, shopping, scenery, and much more.

Let’s get out and enjoy our Indy culture! Exploring Indy events can be as easy as checking out the IndyHub calendar. Visit Indy and Eventbrite can also keep you up to speed with all the great things happening in our city!
