Mental Health America of Greater Indianapolis: Crisis Line Volunteers (needed 7 days a week/24 hours a day)
Volunteer “Clinical Associates” (CAs) are needed to take calls and/or texts from the convenience and comfort of their own homes, from individuals in crisis. CAs have a variety of professional, educational, and personal experiences that allow our program to thrive and serve those in need. No prior training is necessary to volunteer for the Crisis and Suicide Intervention Service (CSIS).
We are looking for individuals who are emphatic, respectful, and have an interest in helping others in a time of personal crisis and distress. Volunteers complete a 40-hour training program through Mental Health America of Greater Indianapolis (MHA Indy) and are certified to work as a volunteer CA, answering phone calls and text messages through the CSIS.
There is currently an unmet need for mental health services and people trained in crisis intervention in our community. MHA Indy is here to fill the gap between service providers and consumers, allowing for smooth transitions into care and/or immediate attention to crisis. Our volunteers are trained to intervene and taught the skills they need to provide assistance to callers in their most vulnerable times.
