Virtual Race Away From Domestic Violence
The Race Away From Domestic Violence is a 5k event meant to bring together runners, walkers, teams and sponsors to honor survivors of domestic violence, remember those we’ve lost, and raise funds to support the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Keeping the health and welfare of our participants in mind, we have decided that our 2020 RAFDV 5K will be a virtual event. Participants will walk, jog, or run a 5K (3.1 miles) on your own, wherever it is safe to do so (e.g., in your neighborhood, on a treadmill). We’ll be interacting across social media channels throughout race day and host an online Opening Ceremonies to make the experience fun and interactive. All participants will be sent a packet including a t-shirt and official certificate of participation. Teams will the most people and top fundraisers will be recognized and win prizes.
This is our primary fundraiser of the year, and we are relying on these funds now more than ever to meet the emerging needs of survivors in the wake of a global pandemic. With the money raised from this event, we will be able to provide them assistance with rent, utility assistance, food, and the stable basics they need to feel safe. At a time when so many survivors (and our communities as a whole) are experiencing isolation, we hope this virtual event will provide some much-needed connection, and communicate to everyone experiencing abuse that they are not alone
