Student Voices: 7 Reasons to Rock the Vote!

There are about a million reasons to vote, especially in this election. As a college student, this new president will be in office when I begin my professional career and life after college, otherwise known as “adulting”. This is my time to not only voice my opinion, but take action. As it is with you- so get out there! Vote! Exercise that right that many countries don’t have, but we DO!

Luckily, if you are still having a hard time trying to justify why to vote, either because you just aren’t feeling a connection with either candidate or thinking that it’s just one vote, it won’t matter, I have mapped out 7 reasons why you should.

  1. Like I said earlier, many countries don’t have this option to vote for leaders, but guess what…we do!
    • Our ancestors worked and fought so hard for this right and it would be breaking their hearts if you didn’t do what they literally and figuratively fought for. Listening to Hamilton a few hundred times has made me feel their pain.
  2. This will affect your children.
    • Deep stuff I know, but it is so true. Whichever candidate wins in November will develop new and reconstruct the old. Whatever happens, our children will experience the aftermath from it. So if you don’t think your vote is important, think of the children!
  3. You get a sticker.
    • Do I really need to say more? You’re pretty much guaranteed at least 50 likes with a bomb patriotic sticker selfie. With that sticker, you make it known that you exercised your right. All of your Instagram and Facebook friends will thank you for what you have done.
  4. You get to use whatever geofilter Snapchat has created and potentially share your clip on the worldwide story.
    • Take that 10 second video campaigning why all of your followers should go out there and vote. Be that Snapchat motivator!
  5. You get to be a role model.
    • Not everyone is into politics, I get it. Some of my friends really don’t keep up on the new articles and information coming out every day about each candidate. I’ve really encouraged them to read the news and stay up to date in order for them to be informed.
  6. Your voice matters.
    • We may not get to have our voice heard when it comes to politics all the time, but this is the prime opportunity to voice your opinion on a national level. There are way more people in this country that I can count, but each and every one of us has the same right to exercise our vote and support our preferred candidate!
  7. Dude, it’s free!
    • When you are a college student money is always on your mind. Heck, when you are an adult money is always on your mind. Luckily for you voting doesn’t cost you a dime. (The Qdoba you get after you vote will cost you, though.)

I’m certain there are several other great reasons to vote, but those are the ones that stick out to me. I hope this not only encourages you to go out and vote, but to also do your research and vote for the candidate you think will best run our country. Happy voting and see you on November 8!
