Walk down the street in any direction in Indianapolis and you will run into a craft beer brewery ready to serve its delicious and one-of-a-kind beverages. It’s not only a celebration for our taste buds, but an industry that is taking over the state! Indiana is currently 135 craft breweries strong, employs 8,000 Hoosiers and generates an economic impact of $1 billion.

Yes – you read that correct – $1 billion of economic impact.

The Big Ten Football Championship Game has called Indianapolis home since 2011 and when looking for ways to enhance the championship weekend experience, it was hard to ignore the benefits of showcasing the growing craft beer industry. Keeping this top of mind, Indiana Taps and Touchdowns was created to bring together local beer enthusiasts, Big Ten fans and anyone looking for a fun after-work get-together.

The event has grown tremendously over the past three years from 300 registrants to more than 1,000 in 2016. The growth can be attributed to the quality vendors Taps and Touchdowns offers and the growing statewide awareness surrounding the craft brewery industry. The event has also expanded its offerings to local wine, cider and food samples for all the non-craft beer lovers to enjoy.

Annually, Indiana Taps and Touchdowns kicks-off the Big Ten Football Championship Game with this year’s event taking place on Friday, December 1. The sounds of DJ Yoshi and the cover band Living Proof will fill the room over the course of the five-hour gathering which includes an exclusive VIP hour (5:00 – 6:00 p.m.) featuring a lounge, specialty food and beer. Tickets start at $30 for advanced purchases and $35 at the door, VIP tickets are priced at $50. Doors at the Pan Am Pavilion open at 5:00 p.m. for all the VIP purchasers and 6:00 p.m. for the remaining registrants and will run until 10:00 p.m.

So come celebrate the Big Ten Football Championship Game weekend and get more familiar with the local craft brewery scene. Even if your favorite team isn’t in the game, you’re bound to discover a new favorite local beer or get reacquainted with an old friend.
