This week, Stephanie Onyeiwu officially joined the IndyHub team as our Digital Media Intern! Today was Stephanie’s first day and we are so excited to have her on the team. She will be assisting with digital promotions, including social media and event marketing. Read more about Stephanie below and help us welcome her to the team!

What college are you attending and what is your major?

I am attending Butler University and I will be in my senior year! My major is Strategic Communication with a specialization in Advertising.

What made you select Butler?

I decided to choose Butler because of the community, the academics, and the butler alumna name in the Midwest. Butler has given me the opportunity to grow as a leader, learner and thinker. I have been able to develop thoughts and insights that benefitted both my academic and professional career. I felt the community at Butler from the moment I stepped on its campus and I am very thankful for the opportunity to go here.

Where are you originally from?

I’m originally from Meadville Pennsylvania a little outside Pittsburgh and Lake Erie.

Do you live on or off-campus and what is your favorite part about being a senior?

I technically live off campus in a senior house with my friends!  I remember as a freshman always looking up to the seniors as role models and wanting to know everything they’re involved with so it’s interesting to be in their shoes.

Outside of school, what are you involved with and/or what are your passions?

Outside of school I enjoy working out, playing my ukulele, and being around my family and friends. I think it’s so important to take breaks like these and surround yourself with the other things you love in order to say true to who you are.

What are you most excited about in regards to joining the IndyHub team this fall?

I am excited for a change of scenery and to expand my professional development! I think it will be a nice refreshing stat to a great opportunity for me in the future and will also open doors for me in the stages of networking and personal development. Downtown is such a gem and I am excited to be able to spend more time there this fall.

If you had to eat at one local spot for an entire year, what would you pick, and what’s your favorite thing to order there?

If I had to eat at one local spot for an entire year I would probably pick the city market downtown. Although I haven’t eaten there too many times, and I am still unfamiliar with some of the food items they serve, I think it’s a great opportunity to try new things right in the heart of Indianapolis!

I have had experience within the restaurant industry before and the best thing I like about it is the sense of community it brings. I get that feeling when I enter the city market and I think it would be fun to try everything they have to offer! My favorite thing that I have ordered there is definitely the pizza. I am not a picky eater but a little picky when it comes to pizza and the pizza they have there is delicious!

You’ve found yourself with a free weeknight– how are you spending that time?

At the beach!! The beach is my safest haven and one of the things I hold in my heart forever. It soothes my mind, my health, and my overall being and I am so relaxed in that environment. I haven’t visited the dunes and I am really trying to go before it gets a little chilly when fall approaches. If I am not near a beach I usually tend to just work out, read, treat myself, and hang out with friends!

What’s your favorite thing about Indianapolis?

My favorite thing is that it feels like an entirely new state than Indiana. To me it has a more hipster vibe, with the coziest and cutest little coffee shops, amazing people in the community, and there is so much room for growth therefore it is always changing and improving itself. I think it’s important to stay in an environment that is always changing and that is how I feel about Indianapolis. As I grow, the city does too!

Do you have any family traditions that you cherish?

During thanksgiving before eating dinner we always go to the movies and watch whatever the most talked about movie is for that time. During Christmas we do the same but after we always go see the lights on the lake either after Christmas Eve Service or on Christmas evening.

What about a hidden talent?

As far as hidden talents go, I sing!

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Anything that has to do with a chalkboard. I also am working on being relational with this one but people who cannot communicate how they are truly feeling – confrontation.

Anything else that I missed that you’d like to share?

I just got back from 5 months in Italy and it was the most incredible and freeing experience of my life!!
