Our new intern, Katie Pfaff started earlier this week and we can’t wait for you to get to know her! Katie is a senior at Butler University and she will be helping us manage our social media and digital content and coordinate program and event logistics.

What is your major, and when do you graduate?

I am double Major in Strategic Communication: Public Relations and Human Communication Organizational Leadership. I will graduate in May 2019, as a Top 100 student. [Editor’s Note: We knew she was awesome when we hired her! ;)]

Where are you originally from?

I’m from Lewisville, Indiana, which is 50 miles east of Indianapolis in a Rural Farming Community.

What made you choose Butler?

My high school math teacher’s son played basketball during the final four at Butler and that is when the university came on my radar. I visited campus and fell in love with the small town feel located in such a booming and growing city. Butler is the place where you can make personal relationships but still have incredible opportunities with access to the Indy Community.

What activities are you involved in on campus?

I am a part of the Alpha Phi Sorority, (Leadership includes: Vice President of Chapter Operations and Philanthropic Chair for our Red Dress Gala Heart Health Fundraiser) I also serve as a Butler Student Ambassador Tour Guide in the Office of Admissions, and am the Communication Lead for BUBeWell, a student wellness initiative. And of course, Butler University Dance Marathon!

What types of things do you like to do in your spare time?

I own and operate a family business at home, “The Gathering” with my two brothers. It serves the purpose of being an event venue in our community to be a space for individuals to gather for special occasions. I also enjoy learning to cook and sew with my mom and grandma!

What excites you most about joining the IndyHub Team?

IndyHub is a unique organization in the concept that they target 20-30 somethings. Being a part of this target audience is really special because as much as I am learning about the Indy community I am able to really dive into my personal future and learn about myself. On a side note, the IndyHub team has been incredibly welcoming and positive as I start this internship, and getting the chance to work downtown is an extra bonus!

What is your favorite thing about Indianapolis?

I really love how Indy is filled with many small and local businesses. I think it is a really special piece to the community and brings a unique feature to the environment.

Do you have any strange talents or hobbies?

Since I grew up on a farm, I would say being able to drive a tractor is a pretty strange thing to tell people when I’m in the city! However, I have a weird confession that I never learned to ride a bike, and desperately need to learn.

What is your favorite book or movie?

I really love a good cheesy romance novel, same when it comes to movies. You can almost guarantee I’m spending my Saturday night watching the Hallmark Channel.

Are you planning any fun trips or vacations this year?

I am taking an all girls spring break trip to the Caribbean with my sorority sisters to celebrate Senior year. And this one isn’t a trip necessarily, but I am helping plan my brother’s wedding for this coming August (which will definitely require a vacation after!)

If you want to learn even more about Katie, check out this incredible longform story on Butler’s website. Be sure to come say hi next time you see Katie at one of our events!
