11 questions with Eric, our new Digital Media Intern

Our new intern, Eric Anderson, officially joined the IndyHub team this week as our Digital Media Intern! Eric has already stayed busy helping us with our IndyVolved print and graphic design projects and we are so excited to have him with us this summer. He is a Digital Media Production major with a Strategic Communications minor and will also be helping us to promote all the exciting events taking place in Indy!

What is your major, and when do you graduate?

I graduate in May of next year (2020) and I am majoring in Digital Media Production and minoring in Strategic Communications.

Where are you originally from?

I’m from Libertyville, Illinois (roughly an hour north of Chicago).

What made you choose Butler?

I originally chose Butler because I enjoyed the small school atmosphere while being so close to Indianapolis and still having access to the city life when I was looking for it. I also chose Butler because I started out as an education major and I felt that it was a reputable school to study that. I’ve stayed at Butler since switching majors because I really enjoy all that the school and the city around it have to offer.

What activities are you involved in on campus?

On campus, I am involved in several intramural sports teams as well as various digital media projects such as recording video for The Collegian’s “Dawgs with Style”. Getting involved around campus has been a great way to have new experiences and meet lots of new people. I try to take part in as much as I can.

What types of things do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, people can typically find me rewatching Marvel movies, playing various sports (usually either baseball, basketball, soccer, or just throwing around a frisbee), trying to avoid cooking at all costs by trying restaurants around Indy (I make a mean pasta), or coming up with new projects that are usually far too extravagant and complicated.

What excites you most about joining the IndyHub Team?

What excited me the most about joining the IndyHub Team would have to be the opportunity to get to know Indy a little more. I’ll be graduated a year from now (fingers crossed on that one), but I intend to remain here in Indy for at least a few years post-graduation and would love to really get to know this city that I’ve been calling home for three years now and will continue to for the years to come.

What is your favorite thing about Indianapolis?

When it comes to choosing my favorite aspect of Indy, I’m torn between the people and the city’s atmosphere. On the one hand, the people of Indy are typically so kind and accommodating, especially when compared to many of the people I’ve come across back in Chicago. The people absolutely, as IndyHub says, make the city. On the other hand, Indy’s atmosphere is a high point, providing all of the diversity and experiences of a big city while maintaining a friendly, approachable, low-stress feel.

Do you have any strange talents or hobbies?

I have an extraordinary talent of stopping the microwave right before it beeps, so that’s something I suppose. Aside from that, I have won a few Super Smash Bros. tournaments and enjoy the group atmosphere and competition of the game. I’m also that crazy person that legitimately enjoys building IKEA furniture.

What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is a little indie story titled “A Game of Thrones.” Granted, I have only read the first of the series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Few people know about this series so let’s just keep it a secret between the two of us, okay? [Editor’s Note: We see what you did there.]

If you had to pick a superpower, what would it be?

If I could pick one superpower, I would choose superspeed. Having watched much of “The Flash” tv show, it seems that superspeed is one of the most versatile superpowers. The ability to travel anywhere I want in the world for free and faster than a plane? Check. Waking up late and still making where I need to go on time? Double check. The ability to run around the world super fast and turn back time Christopher Reeve Superman style? Check, check, and check.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

What I’m looking forward to most this summer is getting to spend it here in Indy. Each summer up to this point, I’ve gone back to Chicago. This is the first summer that I’ll be staying here and I’m very much looking forward to everything that it entails (the opportunity to join the IndyHub Team, living with my three friends in our senior house, and getting to spend some quality time in Indy).

We’re positive that you’ll see Eric around at our events and in the city! Be sure to give him a warm welcome.
