IndyHub’s Month-Long IndyVolved to Connect Millennials and Gen Zs to Volunteerism and Service

Program to spotlight more than 100 local nonprofits and civic-minded organizations and urge participants to “Do Good Often.”

INDIANAPOLIS –  Beginning September 1, 2020, IndyHub will host Indianapolis’ premier volunteer event, IndyVolved 15 presented by Indianapolis Power and Light Company. The event, which typically provides a single-day, summertime volunteer fair and civic celebration, will expand to a month-long project focused on getting local 20- and 30-somethings involved and making a difference throughout Indianapolis. Programming will include virtual conversations focused on the challenges facing our city and the front line leaders pursuing solutions, a workshop on increasing intentionality and impact, and spotlights of ways participants can help local nonprofits, even as communities continue to address the pandemic.

A recent survey featured in the Stanford Social Innovation Review found that 73 percent of nonprofit respondents reported a drop in revenue. Additionally, 82 percent report that the majority of their staff are now working from home. These shifts – alongside significant drops in volunteer numbers – have dramatically altered the delivery of services and the ways in which nonprofits are advancing their missions.

“At a time when we’re more physically disconnected than ever before, IndyHub believes it is critical that we highlight ways in which our network of doers and changemakers can empower and fortify these local organizations,” said IndyHub president Blake Johnson. “Our signature event, IndyVolved focuses on this by connecting thousands of young people with local civic organizations who need their time, talent, network and treasure.”

In this landmark year, IndyVolved 15 presented by Indianapolis Power & Light Company has also been designated as a Bicentennial Commission-endorsed community project. From virtual experiences to limited in-person gatherings, there’s something for everyone at IndyVolved 15 presented by Indianapolis Power & Light. All programming is provided free of charge thanks to our generous corporate partners.

“We could have put our plans on hold, looked to 2021, and decided that it would be best to hunker down and quietly weather this storm,” Johnson said. “But that just wouldn’t be IndyHub, and it most certainly wouldn’t be Indianapolis. When faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, our city rallies together. We look out for each other. We collaborate and bust through barriers to ensure our neighbors are served, uplifted, and empowered. We’ll do this together in September.”

Ways to Do Good Often with IndyVolved 15 presented by Indianapolis Power & Light Company this September:

  • September 2nd, 4-6 p.m. – IndyVolved Kick-off at CityWay, featuring a socially distant, mask-required, small gathering.
  • Every Tuesday and Thursday in September, 8:15 a.m.  – Uncover the Good with Plat Collective. Hear directly from local nonprofits about the status of their work, the challenges they are tackling, and how you can get connected to service opportunities. These conversations will air live on IndyHub’s Facebook.
  • September 16th, 6:30 p.m. – Plan Your Impact with Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. This digital workshop will help 20-and 30-somethings ensure that whether it’s their time, talent, treasure or network, what they give is paying off and achieving the greatest impact.
  • Ongoing – Do Good Often Blog Series with AT&T Indiana and social media spotlights with The Heritage Group, showcasing civic organizations throughout the city. Follow IndyHub on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to find your civic fit.
  • Ongoing – Do Good Often Bag Campaign with the Indianapolis Colts. Do Good Often bags will be available throughout the city, providing a reminder and instructions for participants to make donations to organizations in need throughout September (and all year long).
