Rusty Bucket Annual Coat Drive
December 7, 2021
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until February 1, 2022
Rusty Bucket is collecting coats for their annual coat drive, donating to Kids Coats Hamilton County. Kids Coats is different from other coat distributions in that we take the coats to where the people live! We partner with local churches in Hamilton County that turn their buildings into coat shopping experiences so families can choose their coats. We include other Central Indiana organizations in our events in order to connect families to opportunities available to them at little or no cost. To partner with local communities to provide coats and winter wear for families and connect those families to community resources, prayer opportunities, and churches near where they live. At the suggestion of Nancy Chance, Director of the Good Samaritan Network, three women from Carmel United Methodist Church (CUMC) started Hamilton County Kids Coats in 2004. That year, all the volunteers and coat donations were from church members and the entire event was funded by the CUMC United Methodist Women and the Good Samaritan Network. With coat racks borrowed from the Salvation Army, we served just over 200 people. We have grown every year since then! In 2018, we gave out new and gently-used coats and winter wear to 3,046 children and their families and 2,398 lightweight jackets to kids heading back-to-school. That same year, Carmel UMC launched us as a non-profit so we would be more equipped to grow into our mission. We are now a year-round coat ministry with partners all over the county. We need ALL SIZES infant to adult 5XL! Collect clean, gently-used or new coats, mittens, gloves, hats, snow pants, and boots.
