Becca is an avid fan of all things Indy! As the Digital Marketing Coordinator at Visit Indy, she is out and about capturing unique content to encourage visitors to choose Indy as their next destination. A frequenter of shops and restaurants on Mass Ave, her favorite local businesses usually center around coffee. Becca has lived in Indianapolis full-time for two years (post-graduation from Butler University), but is eager to learn more about the deeper meaning of destination stewardship.

The 1828 Leadership Project, presented by Citizens Energy Group, is a civic leadership tract for Indy’s young leaders with the goal of fostering intentional relationships with a cross-sector of Indianapolis’ thought leaders and decision makers. Becca is a part of 1828’s Class XI . Learn more about her below.

How do you spend your days? For example, you can tell us about your career, side hustle or exercise routine whatever you want to share. We’re ready to listen.

I spend my days exploring the city! As a marketer for Indy, I am out and about taking photos and sharing the most unique sides of the Circle City. Whether it’s a sunrise photo of the Canal Walk, the coolest cocktail bar in town, or the grand opening of a new art exhibit, I like to be present in the moment, working through the best ways to welcome visitors to Indy. On the side, you might see me making candles at Penn & Beech Candle Co., or trying out a new route at North Mass Boulder. All that aside, I am fan of all things vintage and historical; having studied History in college, I am always looking out for ways we can interact with the past. Historical neighborhood tours, archives, house museums and more – I am all for it!

You’re off the clock, there are no expectations. What are you doing?

Checking out a new art exhibit or grabbing late night drinks with friends.

When thinking about the future of Indianapolis, what are you most looking forward to in the next 5 years and why?

Indianapolis has always been on the radar, but in the past few years, we’ve been making even more of a name for ourselves. I’m excited to see where that recognition will go. Sure, we have new developments like the Bottleworks District and the upcoming Signia Hotel, but I’m looking forward to the day when we’re a place people intrinsically anticipate going to visit, nation-wide.

Are there any local causes that you support? What are they and how might others learn more or get involved?

I am on the Young Professionals Advisory Board of the Indianapolis Art Center, which works to make the study of art approachable and accessible to locals. Through classes, one-off programming, and special events, the Indianapolis Art Center fosters creativity with all audiences. Taking a class has made me appreciate the work we can do when properly taught and given room to learn. I encourage others to take a class – either a full class or a quick “Make It Take It” – through this non-profit.

You have a day off and you’re in Indianapolis. Share the agenda for your perfect Indy day.

First, I would walk over to Foundry Provisions for coffee and breakfast. Then, I’d go make a new craft at Indy Fused Glass. After that I would have lunch at Forty-Five Degrees and take a ride along the Cultural Trail. To end the night, I’d grab dinner and drinks at Baby’s and then  see a movie at the new Kan Kan Cinema!

Indianapolis is a sprawling county, what’s your favorite part about our city?

Geographically, I love the Chatham Arch/Old Northside neighborhoods, just north of Mass Ave. The small businesses in this part of town have a lot of heart, and the combination of new and old architecture give the area a unique charm. Overall, I love how Indy has the energy of a big city with the connections of a small town. My local restaurants know me by name, while at the same time catering to visitors from all across the globe.

If you were a superhero what would be your special trait?

Time Travel – see the world in a different perspective!

You’re hosting an Indy-themed dinner party. What three guests are you inviting?

One of my professors from Butler, someone new to the city, and my Oma (grandmother who has lived in Indy most of her adult life).

If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Green Light – Lorde

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Flipping to the Next Chapter: The Hobbies, Cities, and Friendships Who Have Made Me.

How do you define success?

Being someone your previous self would be proud of.
