Adjusting in Service
A few months ago full of cabin fever I jumped in the car and drove downtown. It was like driving through an old horror movie, boarded windows and no one in sight. This was not the Indianapolis I was raised in. It felt so empty and cold. COVID-19 has put the world on pause and changed the way we live. Most of all it has isolated many of us, restricting our interaction with others, limiting our extracurricular activities, and causing increased stress and uncertainty. I began to think it’s the people that make this city. So it is important for each of us to find the new normal.
That was a big feat for Divas Honoring Divas because we provide a popup shop, Love Tours, filled with facilitated conversation, an art or beauty project, and live entertainment at women centered facilities in our community. So we were completely shut down. However we realized that connecting to women didn’t have to be limited to in person. Especially in this time, empowerment and support had become even more vital. So we explored virtual options, created drop off options with care packages and outdoor options. Just as we went to the drawing board to assess new ways to impact women, I admonish you to do the same. Step out of your comfort zone and do for others. You have something that people in this city need so use your power for good and serve. This pandemic has exposed even more opportunities for volunteerism. So explore the needs and find where you can fill the gap. There are opportunities with Divas Honoring Divas or many other organizations in the city. We are the people that make this city great!
