Kadir Nelson, an award-winning painter, illustrator, and author known for his work featuring African American culture and history will present The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation’s annual Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture on September 29, 2022. Nelson is a Caldecott Medalist for children’s book illustration for his illustrations in The Undefeated written by Kwame Alexander. His contributions to the book earned him the 2020 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award and the book was named a 2020 Newbery Honor Book for children’s literature.
