Donuts with a Purpose
June 7 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeThe Salvation Army of Central Indiana and Jack’s Donuts are excited to announce “Donuts with a Purpose” a celebration of National Donut Day. We invite the community to visit us on Monument Circle, Downtown Indianapolis, on June 7th starting at 9 a.m. as we pass out thousands of free glazed donuts while supplies last.
Joining us on the Circle will be dancers from the Indiana Pacemates and Pacers mascot Boomer. “Donuts with a Purpose” promises to bring together the community in a spirit of camaraderie and compassion.
This event goes beyond just sweet treats, the morning event will also include a traveling museum to honor the history of National Donut Day. Visitors to the event will learn about the Salvation Army volunteers who served donuts to WWI soldiers on the frontlines. They became known as Donut Lassies. Donut Lassies served thousands of donuts a day and to honor them The Salvation Army celebrated the first Donut Day in 1938.
To continue this tradition of serving our military and first responders, The Salvation Army of Central Indiana will be delivering donuts throughout our community. It’s a small gesture to express gratitude for their dedication and sacrifice.
“We are thrilled to partner with Jack’s Donuts to celebrate National Donut Day in such a meaningful way,” said Major Rachel Stouder, Commander of The Salvation Army of Central Indiana. “Donuts with a Purpose is not just enjoying the great taste of a Jack’s donut; it’s about honoring our history and recognizing the sacrifices of our veterans.”
