“Free the Imprisoned Lightning!” told by Andy Offutt Irwin

January 8, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$15 – $35

In the mid-20th century, a German-born Jewish man makes his way from the Lower East Side of Manhattan to Covington, Georgia, where he buys a jewelry store and marries the daughter of one of the town’s founding families. Generations later, these relatives of intertwined faiths bond anew over a painting, an heirloom of great and unexpected value. Yes, this story features Marguerite Van Camp, M.D.!

Andy Offutt Irwin is a storyteller, arts educator, singer-songwriter and humorist. He is arguably the world’s best whistler, performing professionally and prestigiously with the likes of the famous chamber group the Kandinsky Trio, for one.

Offutt Irwin has won several awards for his storytelling, including the National Storytelling Network’s ORACLE Circle of Excellence Award, Sammy Clark Award for Exemplary Teaching and Service and National Parenting Product Award. He’s been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival nine times and the Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center.

Offutt Irwin gets inspiration for his stories from his rich and diverse life experience, including his stints as a church youth director, political satirist, ditch digger, bullfrog tadpole catcher, garbage man, Shakespearean actor and many more. He lives in the town he grew up in, Covington, Georgia with his wife and son.
