Historic Neighborhoods of Indianapolis – A Bicentennial Look at Indy’s Architectural History

FreeJoin us for a presentation by Jordan Ryan, independent architectural historian and archivist and secretary of the board for Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis, on the value of historic Indianapolis archival collections. This virtual program will highlight local architectural collections recently made accessible during Ryan’s work managing the Indianapolis Bicentennial Collecting Initiative on behalf of the Indiana Historical Society. The initiative was officially endorsed by the City of Indianapolis’ Bicentennial Commission. After highlighting newly available architectural, planning, and infrastructure-related collections, Ryan will discuss the civic and research values of building municipal collections; they will end with a summary of the Indianapolis Bicentennial efforts. Ryan is an interdisciplinary architectural historian, archivist and scholar offering boutique built environment, planning, and land use history and archival research consulting services.
This event is the second event in a new series presented by the Propylaeum focusing on different historic neighborhoods of Indianapolis. From Meridian Place, to Ransom Place, to Lockerbie, and more. Local experts and enthusiasts will discuss the history, architecture, and historical significance neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis and will share photos and stories from past and present.
