Indy’s Lost African American Architecture & Neighborhoods: Then & Gone

April 28, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Paula Brooks grew up in Indy’s near westside in what is now Ransom Place, an Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission conservation district. A proud product of Indianapolis Public Schools and Howard University grad, Paula is a voice for Indy’s Black history and culture and an activist for preservation of what remains. Paula will share some of her favorite buildings and forgotten neighborhoods that have been lost or significantly altered and suggestions for how Indiana Avenue should be revived.

This event is the third event in a new series presented by the Propylaeum focusing on different historic neighborhoods of Indianapolis. From Meridian Place, to Ransom Place, to Lockerbie, and more. Local experts and enthusiasts will discuss the history, architecture, and historical significance neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis and will share photos and stories from past and present.
