OI Insights: Inside Indiana Avenue

April 26, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$25

In an attempt to promote safety for all, Leadership Indianapolis is requiring that participants attending in-person events provide proof of vaccination and comply with mask mandates as directed by event venues and/or local government advisories.

OI Insights is a companion program to our two-day Opportunity Indianapolis series.

OI Insights will take participants on an in-depth, in-person experience into one unique aspect of our city’s civic life with opportunities to engage with local leaders.

The April 2022 session will highlight the history of Black people in Indianapolis, specifically along the corridor of Indiana Avenue and the impact segregation and harmful practices in civic spaces has had on the preservation of the culture and accomplishments of multicultural communities in our city.

The program will begin with a short walking tour of Indiana Avenue before traveling to the Madam Walker Legacy Center for a panel discussion featuring subject-matter experts Sampson Levingston (Through 2 Eyes), Britt Redd (Department of Metropolitan Development) and Jordan Ryan (The History Concierge).

Participants of this program will:

  • Receive a culturally-competent overview of socially significant issues in Indianapolis
  • Connect with local civic leaders
  • Be empowered to utilize research and historical context in their decision making
