World-champion Joey Chestnut and other top-ranked Major League Eating (MLE) athletes will return to compete during the ninth annual World-famous St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail Eating Championship – At The Big Ten Tailgate Party Presented By Meijer on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022. The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Georgia Street as part of the 2022 Big Ten Football Championship Game weekend festivities.

During the 2018 event, Chestnut consumed 18 pounds, 9.6 ounces or the equivalent of 46.5 orders from the restaurant or 186 shrimp in eight minutes, setting the world record and earning him the sixth consecutive shrimp cocktail eating championship title. He remains undefeated at the event since its inception and is set to defend his title again this year.
