Ute Lemper: Rendezvous with Marlene

February 29, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$55

Cabaret meets theater as Berlin’s legendary cabaret sensation, Ute Lemper, brings her homage to cabaret icon Marlene Dietrich, with a theatrical cabaret based on the true story of Uta’s three-hour phone call with Marlene when they both lived in Paris. Marlene talked about her life, her work and style, her love for the poet Rilke, her complicated relationship with Germany, her sorrow and her fascinations.

Ute shares Marlene’s story and performs iconic songs from all the chapters of Marlene’s life, from the Berlin cabaret years to her fabulous Burt Bacharach collaborations.

This show will be performed in English and German.

Ute Lemper’s diverse career has led to international acclaim in cabaret, film, and theatre. She starred in the original Viennese cast of Cats, the original Sally Bowles in the Paris production of Cabaret, (Moliére Award) and Velma Kelly in Chicago (London-Laurence Olivier Award, New York), and a recreation of the Marlene Dietrich-created Lola in The Blue Angel, Although she is perhaps best known for her interpretations of music of the Weimar Republic era, her edgy aesthetic and repertoire also reach far beyond Germany.

Her numerous solo concerts and symphony appearances have been produced in prestigious venues throughout the world. She collaborated with Wynton Marsalis on three extraordinary concerts for Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York. She has recorded more than 30 CDs and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Paris Days/Berlin Nights. She dubbed the singing voices of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame for German-speaking audiences.
