ZooBoo at the Indianapolis Zoo
September 27, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - October 31, 2023 @ 7:00 pm
Come volunteer at ZooBoo to help create an environment of fun! This family favorite is offered five nights per week (Wednesday-Sunday) Sept. 27 through Oct. 31 — including Monday, Oct. 30 and Halloween night!
Volunteer opportunities include:
•Bayou Games-Cannonball Toss: Welcome guests to Gator Bayou. Distribute “cannonballs” for guests to throw at a target. Retrieve the “cannonballs” after guests have had their turn. Track attendance data. This position includes standing, bending and squatting. This is a high-intensity activity.
•Bayou Games-Matching Map: Welcome guests to Gator Bayou. Assist guests with spinning the wheel to match the map graphics. Track attendance data. This position requires standing. This is a low-to-medium-intensity activity.
•Bayou Games-Tic Tac Toe: Welcome guests to Gator Bayou. Distribute the tokens to each guest when it is their turn. Make sure to retrieve all the tokens after their turn. Track attendance data. This position includes standing, bending and squatting. This is a medium-intensity activity.
•Craft Assistant: Hand out crafts to kids. Keep supplies and table neat and tidy. Track attendance data. This is a low-intensity activity.
•Jack’s Barn Host: Welcome guests to Jack’s Barn. Monitor one-way traffic flow through the building. Observe guest activity to ensure the barn remains a safe space for our animals. This is a medium-intensity activity.
•Mirror Maze Assistant: Welcome guests to the Mirror Maze. Monitor one-way traffic flow through the building. Review safety guidelines with guests before they enter the maze. This is a medium-intensity activity.
•Pumpkin Town/Gator Bayou Floater: Welcome guests to Pumpkin Town (in the Bicentennial Pavilion). Observe Volunteer activities in Pumpkin Town and Gator Bayou. Assist those who are busiest and provide breaks to fellow Volunteers. This is a medium-intensity activity.
•Trick-or-Treat Trail: Welcome guests to the not-so-spooky Trick-or-Treat Trail (through Plains). Pass out treats to kids at various stations throughout the trail. Refill the treats at your station from under-table storage. This is a medium-intensity activity.
•Trick-or-Treat Trail Floater: Monitor the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Assist at stations which may get backed up. Help refill candy inventory when it gets low. Provide breaks for volunteers in the Trick-or-Treat Trail. This position requires a lot of walking and comfort using a Zoo radio. This is a high-intensity activity.
*Please note: For all volunteer assignments, please ensure guest and animal safety. Volunteer opportunities are available each day of the event. Shift times are 1:30-4:30/5:30pm, 4-7pm or 5-9pm.
Volunteer attire for the event is a solid-color shirt and khaki or black pants. All Volunteers will be given a ZooBoo-specific lanyard to wear and return at the end of their shift. Halloween costumes/accessories may not be worn by volunteers during the event. Please be prepared to complete tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.
