Indiana_Association_Of_Water_And_Soil_ConservationThe Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, a 501(c)(3), seeks an Assistant Director to conduct day–to-day operations in communications, outreach, program assistance, and office management. The IASWCD works closely with 92 soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs) to develop and maintain an effective and reliable delivery system that meets local conservation needs. Our mission is to enable the conservation of the natural resources of Indiana. This position will be housed in the IASWCD office at 225 S. East St., Suite 740, Indianapolis, Indiana. Duties include the following:

Responsibility for Communications/Outreach/Publications pertinent to the IASWCD

    • Prepare, write, edit and distribute media advisories and news releases for the IASWCD and the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI) as needed
    • Writing and distributing:
        • E-newsletter – Conservation Update (bi-monthly)
        • Development e-newsletter (monthly)
      • Responsible for maintaining and editing:
        • IASWCD Website
        • CCSI Website
        • ICP Website
        • Statewide online calendar of events
      • Maintenance of Twitter and Facebook accounts for IASWCD and CCSI
      • Creating and editing Annual Conference media, brochures, scripts, etc.
      • Updating and creating existing communications and marketing pieces
      • Other duties as required by contribution agreements and grants

Responsibility for managing IASWCD Awards

    • Manage all aspects of award programs and events including: River Friendly Farmer, Conservation Farmer of the Year, Friend of Conservation, Supervisor of the Year, and District Showcase

Assist Executive Director with Fund Development

    • Assist in on-line and other social media avenues of fund development
    • Assist with grant research, editing of proposals, etc.

Assist with Office Management and Member Relations

    • Maintain SWCD member and conservation partner relationships; respond directly to inquiries and requests from Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) and other conservation partners
    • Develop and maintain databases using Microsoft Access and/or Excel
    • General office management – opening mail; securing checks; ordering supplies; coordinating various mailings
    • Participate in relevant professional organizations, committees, boards and meetings
    • Other duties as needed

Job Requirements

    • 2-3 years of experience in an office setting
    • Strong communication and publishing skills for internal and external audiences
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Publisher) required
    • Knowledge of Adobe products, primarily InDesign and Dreamweaver, preferable
    • Knowledge of WordPress required
    • Social media experience required
    • Demonstration of successful project management (ability to plan, strategize, and implement programs)
    • Ability and willingness to take initiative and work independently
    • Experience using copier, telephones, Internet and e-mail
    • Demonstrated follow-through on assigned tasks
    • Interpersonal skills with a team-oriented approach
    • Bachelor’s degree required

Supervision

The incumbent is under the direct supervision and reports to the IASWCD Executive Director.

Salary and Benefits

The salary will be negotiated based on qualifications and experience. A benefit package is available and will be negotiated depending on individual needs.

Hours
This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week.
