Indiana Humanities is seeking an ambitious, enthusiastic, detail-oriented communicator to join our collaborative and energetic team as a communications manager and program associate. Primary communications responsibilities include growing our social media presence, creating and sending e-newsletters, designing collateral materials, and ensuring our website is up-to-date and appealing (among many other things!).

Program responsibilities primarily include planning and organizing logistics for projects and events around the state, as well as brainstorming and implementing new program elements. As part of a small team of five staff members, all employees are empowered to think creatively and strategically about our communications and programming.

Daily activities include: writing press releases, content for the blog, e-newsletters and social media updates; writing for and designing collateral materials; researching best practices; and thinking critically about how best to reach our target audiences. In addition, this staff person will oversee the development of a new website in 2015 and help lead communications for ALL-IN, a new digitally based competition.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, ambitious, collaborative, proactive, critical thinker
  • Demonstrates exceptional writing and editing skills – whether it’s a press release, blog post or tweet
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Knowledge of AP Stylebook guidelines
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Familiarity with Illustrator, Photoshop, or other graphic design software
  • Familiarity with ExactTarget and WordPress/HTML a plus
  • Experience planning/implementing special events
  • Availability for occasional travel within Indiana
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, English or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience implementing a variety of communications tactics, such as: social media, e-newsletters, media relations, etc.

Indiana Humanities is a statewide nonprofit that encourages Hoosiers to think, read and talk. We offer an exciting and challenging opportunity for someone who is passionate about the humanities and their ability to help make our state a better place to live and work. If that’s you, we’d love to have you join our team!
