Last year the Indianapolis Parks Foundation shifted in a BIG way. They set out a new strategic plan and took on a modern brand, with a new name. Now known as The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis, this organization is set and ready to make you proud to work, play, and love our parks in new ways.
One of their first initiatives in 2021 directly speaks to those of us who love a good subscription box, that’s right Parks + Subscription … Who’s intrigued? Well, I was, so I sat down with their Communications Manager and IndyHub 1828 Leadership Project alumni, David O’Rourke to learn more.
IH: David, first it’s incredible to see you (outside, masked) but still amazing to see your face, friend! Tell me how you and your team at the Parks Alliance have been throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
DO: It’s great to see half of your face too! And The Parks Alliance team has been pretty wonderful with all things considered. Our team has an incredibly positive attitude and although we (and the rest of the world) could have done without a pandemic, we have been able to focus on the positives and really use this time to our benefit. We’re moving right along with big projects like the $9.2 million Thomas Taggart Memorial Amphitheater (home of Indianapolis Shakespeare Company) and our new headquarters in the former Riverside Marina. We cannot wait to move out of our basement office space and into the heart of Riverside Regional Park. We couldn’t be more excited! We’re only a few steps away from making the final move, and we look forward to the day we can open the doors to the public.
IH: It’s incredible that in a year of dare I say it, PIVOTING your team did the ultimate pivot with a fresh brand and office change. How did your team decide it was the right moment for such big changes?
DO: Ah, I see what you did there. Oh, we pivoted alright. And we couldn’t have done it without PIVOT Marketing. They did an incredible job listening, gathering public opinion, gathering data, and helping us bring our vision to fruition. As far as timing…The first thing you should know is this process has been anything but rushed. Only after extensive research and approval, did we find a multitude of reasons, pointing us in the direction of a rebrand. I won’t get too deep into it at this moment, but one big thing we decided was that our name needed to more accurately reflect who we are and what we do. Our mission is to connect resources to needs in support of Indianapolis’ parks and public spaces, and the name The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis is a good reflection of that mission. Also, what better place for us to be than in a park!? With our new branding and renewed vision we wanted to have a space that people can identify us with as well.
IH: So, you have a new office, new look and now a new way that people can get involved and support this mission. What exactly is the new Ally Supply Box?
DO: Honestly, it’s the best way you can support our parks and public spaces in Indy. The Ally Supply Box is a quarterly subscription box to get you ready for the season ahead. Each box includes high-quality seasonal goods, and we do our best to keep things local.
IH: How much does it cost for people to sign up?
DO: The Ally Supply Box is $150. There is a short window to secure your box, so you need to act fast. But, a donation of $1000 before January 25 will secure your quarterly box all year long.
IH: Where does their investment go?
DO: Their investment directly supports The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis, and in turn supports parks, trails and greenways throughout Indianapolis including our project, Indy Urban Acres. To date, our work has secured over $80 million in park improvement and amenities.
IH: Is there a limited amount each quarter? If so, how many and how can people ensure they are a part of this experience?
DO: Yes! Only there are only 100 available each quarter, so you need to act fast! Or donate $1000 before January 25 to ensure you receive all four.
You heard it here IndyHub friends, this subscription connects you with local brands each quarter while supporting our great green spaces so hurry to subscribe for your Ally Supply Box today!
David, thank you for your time and hanging outside in the chilly wind – we’ll have to do this again when it’s warmer!
