Indy’s newest music festival is just a few weeks away. On June 11 and 12, the WonderRoad Music Festival will take over Garfield Park bringing together a star-studded line-up of performances including Vampire Weekend, Chvrches, Lord Huron, Bastille and many more.
We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help bring this festival to life! Volunteers will work (2) four-hour shifts over the course of the festival weekend. And when volunteers aren’t working, they can enjoy FREE general admission access to the festival. Plus, food, beverage, swag and a wonderful experience!
Want to know what it’s like to volunteer for a music festival with Elevation Group? We asked Tina Greig, former volunteer for Ohio-based festival Wonderstruck, to share about her experience. Keep reading to get a sneak peak at what WonderRoad volunteers can expect!
How did you learn about the volunteer opportunity and what motivated you to volunteer?
At last year’s Wonderstruck festival in Kirtland, Ohio, the artists that were performing caught my attention. Many of them were bands that both myself, my husband and our teenage girls enjoyed. I saw on the festival website that there was an opportunity to volunteer. As a Nurse Practitioner myself, I thought I could volunteer my time to help those who may become ill during the event. Imagine my surprise when they called me to ask if I would be willing to be an artist runner!
Can you walk us through how your experience volunteering on the day of the festival went?
During the Wonderstruck music festival, I worked both days. The Elevation Group gave me a clear schedule for each day and trusted that I would follow through on the position I was assigned. As an artist runner, my job was to drive all over Northeast Ohio to help get bands, their managers and families to and from the venue.
Can you share with us what your favorite aspect of your volunteer position was?
I loved getting a glimpse behind the scenes of a music festival! I really enjoyed driving with the bands to and from the venue. I was sure to be quiet and professional, but was surprised when a lot of the artists struck up conversations with me. I definitely remember them and some of the kindest, most down to earth people I’ve ever met!
What is your favorite memory from the event?
Honestly, there are too many favorite memories to count! If I had to choose, my favorites would have to be the ones where I made a positive impact on the artists’ day just by going above and beyond. One band stated, “Tina, you are amazing”! Just because I made a special stop for them before they went back to the hotel. Simple little runs like that made them so happy!
What are three things interested volunteers should know about volunteering for the festival?
First of all, it is a great deal of work to volunteer for a music festival, but it is also very rewarding! Second – the staff is amazing to work with. I was treated with great respect and kindness throughout the entire process. And lastly, as a lover of music this is a great opportunity to hear the bands, discover new artists and be part of something wonderful!
Why would you recommend people volunteer for WonderRoad Music Festival?
I would recommend volunteering if you’re interested because it’s an incredible opportunity to hear great music and make friends with people you may never have crossed paths with otherwise! I even pulled my husband into volunteering and he had a great time as well. I myself can’t wait to work with The Elevation Group again this year at their music festivals!
