I initially heard about YNPN when attending a Nonprofit Leadership Alliance conference in early 2008. Local chapter leaders were there presenting about YNPN network and how chapters in many different cities can help recent graduates as they navigate the nonprofit sector. Upon returning home, I set to work to create an Indianapolis chapter of YNPN.
A few years later, after mixed successes and failures, I hopped in a jeep with five Indianapolis acquaintances who barely knew each other, and drove from Indianapolis to Grand Rapids, MI for the YNPN national conference. We hoped that the conference would help us learn how to grow and create an impact within the Indy community. In Michigan, we became fully immersed in the YNPN experience – shared our joys, concerns, energy, and inspiration for working in the nonprofit sector.
In the end it wasn’t rigorous planning and implementation, that brought Indy’s chapter to life – YNPNindy exists today because a group of people, inspired by the national conference, came home determined to support each other through their journeys in the nonprofit sector and share the YNPN energy with friends and colleagues.
That’s why this year’s conference is so important and fitting, because this year YNPNindy will host the 2018 National Conference.
YNPN National Conference & Leaders Institute, presented by Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, brings together leaders from across the country for three days of networking, professional development, and collaboration. For the past twelve years, the leaders of the national YNPN network have gathered annually to build relationships, learn from each other, and reconnect with YNPN’s vision of strengthening communities by building a diverse and powerful social sector. The 2018 Change in Action Conference is where the most passionate and innovative nonprofit professionals will come to take their careers and leadership to the next level.
